.Historical Society Grounds Improvements and Additions

A Log Cabin has been put in place on the grounds and is open for viewing. The cabin was constructed from the remnants of two old log cabins and the logs refitted. Future plans include adding an herb garden and rail fence.

An Amphitheater is located on the south side of the Red Barn. The stage is in place and stone and grass seating has been installed. There are electrical outlets for lights and band equipment on the stage. A canvas cover has been purchased as well. A picnic area will be added to the area. This stage is available for outdoor musical events and plays or programs and can be rented by outside groups.

The Memorial Garden is in place by the Clock Tower. The Ohio Bicentennial Bell has made the rounds, and is now in the garden area. Thanks to the Portage County Commissioners for allowing us to have the bell on permanent loan at this site. Flowers and shrubs, along with a fence, flagpole, bench, and sidewalk are all in place. A granite stone memorial honoring the memory of Portage County Pioneer Families, donated by the Portage County Genealogical Society, is along the sidewalk in the garden. A new granite lion, donated by John Carson Jr. is at the far south end of the garden area.

Indian Village-the newest addition is the Indian area being built by Robert Kuntz. A wigwam, cooking area with fire pit, a weaving rack, food dryer and round house --are all in different stages of being built.
